What We Do
We envision a world free of childhood lead poisoning.
LeRA is currently focused on running country-specific lead content studies on consumer products to identify the main drivers of lead exposure. Our work enables the prioritization and elimination of major sources of lead exposure; we provide decision-relevant data to governments and mitigation-focused NGOs to ensure regulation, reformulation, and enforcement.
Lead content studies: A cheap, scalable solution
By testing hundreds of consumer goods at a low cost, lead content studies provide invaluable data on the prevalence and extent of lead contamination across various product categories.
A lead content study involves the following 4 steps:
LeRA aims to run at least 20 lead content studies over the next 5 years.
Other forms of lead research also hold significant promise
Conducting source apportionment research, tracing supply chains, validating affordable blood lead level testing methods, and biokinetic modelling are just a few alternate avenues deemed as global priorities for lead research by the Center for Global Development, providing additional pathways we may expand to in later years of operation.
